In brief: City offices close for Labor Day

Spokane City Hall will be closed Monday along with other city facilities, including the garbage transfer stations and the waste-to-energy plant, in observance of Labor Day. The city’s golf courses will be open.

Parking meters don’t have to be plugged on Labor Day, and garbage pickup and curbside recycling will be a day late all week with Friday’s pickup occurring on Saturday.

Spokane Public Library branches will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of Labor Day.

The Spokane City Council will hold its regular weekly meetings on Tuesday. The council’s briefing session will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the legislative session scheduled to begin immediately afterward. The legislative session usually is held at 6 p.m. The council meets in the City Council Chambers in the lower level of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Rotary collecting school supplies

Rotary Club North is collecting donations for its Back-to-School Supply Drive for Holmes Elementary School, 2600 W. Sharp Ave.

The organization needs crayons, glue sticks, erasers, rulers, backpacks and other school supplies for students in need.

Dog Owner Day at Clark Park

The Spokane Kennel Club is sponsoring a Responsible Dog Owner Day event Saturday at Clark Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Activities include training and breeding clinics, talent and costume contests, dog sports, and kids’ safety. The Lilac City Dog Trainers and the Spokane Dog Trainers will be giving demonstrations.

Clark Park is located at Division Street and Garland Avenue.

East Central

Center plans spaghetti feed

East Central presents its fourth annual Spaghetti Feed fundraiser Sept. 20, 5 to 7 p.m., at the East Central Senior Center.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children. The dinner features spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, green salad, garlic bread, spumoni ice cream and a beverage.

Proceeds will benefit the East Central Senior Center’s low-cost senior activities.

Tickets are available at East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St., or by calling 625-6693.
