Water rate increase sought

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed 87.4 percent water rate increase for Kootenai County’s Diamond Bar Estates customers.

The hearing will start at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Rathdrum Senior Center, corner of Highway 41 and Montana Street.

Diamond Bar Estates serves about 43 households.

Under the proposal, the base monthly charge for the first 7,500 gallons would go up from $21 to $50 a month.

And Diamond Bar is proposing a commodity charge of 52 cents – up from 45 cents – for every 1,000 gallons of water used beyond the 7,500 gallons.

Meanwhile, the PUC staff is recommending an increase to $29 for the first 4,000 gallons of use and 73 cents for every 1,000 gallons used above that.

At the hearing, Diamond Bar customers can give public testimony before the commissioners who will decide the case.

Documents related to the matter can be accessed online at www.puc.idaho.gov. Click on the water icon, then on “Open Water cases,” and scroll down to Case DIA-W-07-01.
