Religion notebook: Catholicism series will resume at GU
Gonzaga University will kick off its annual “Catholicism for a New Millennium” speaker series next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the GU Law School’s moot courtroom.
Brother David Andrews will speak on the topic, “Eating Is a Moral Act.”
Andrews is former director of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference, which supports family farms, a just food system, sustainable development and care for the environment.
He will discuss how Roman Catholics can better link farmers, consumers, environmentalists and economists.
The event is free of charge.

Spiritual Hunger Conference
Healing Rooms Ministries will present its ninth-annual Spiritual Hunger Conference from Wednesday through next Saturday in the Group Health Exhibit Hall at the corner of Division Street and Spokane Falls Boulevard.
The event will include speakers Cal Pierce of Healing Rooms Ministries, Bill Johnson of Bethel Church in Redding, Calif., and Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries in Mozambique, Africa.
The conference, which will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday, is free of charge, but registration is required to reserve a seat.

Volunteers needed
Catholic Charities needs volunteers for the 15 programs it conducts in Eastern Washington.
The programs are Bernadette Place, Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Catholic Relief Services, Childbirth and Parenting Alone Program, Christmas Bureau, counseling, House of Charity, Parish Social Ministry, Refugee and Immigration Services, the regional office, Respect Life, St. Anne’s Children and Family Center, St. Margaret’s Shelter, Senior and Family Housing and senior services.

Spokane Christian Singles will present a singles mixer party Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at 26312 N. Thor Road in Chattaroy.
