In brief: Web site will show best lights
Flickering, multicolored light displays have become as much a part of Christmas as Santa himself. We want to help you find the best shows in town.
If you’ve got a holiday light display or want to recommend a neighbor’s house, go to spokesmanreview.com/ holidaylights and tell us about it.
Later this month, you’ll be able to go back to the Web site and map your own light tour. We’ll also publish a list of displays in the newspaper.

MANITO
Holiday lights at conservatory
The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department’s holiday light display at Gaiser Conservatory at Manito Park begins Friday at 8 a.m. and will continue through Dec. 16.
The conservatory will be decked out with some 30,000 holiday lights, which play off the ongoing plant displays inside the warm greenhouses.
Spokane’s 101-year-old Christmas cactus should be in bloom. Also, the plant display will include a collection of poinsettias and other tropical flowers.
Hours of viewing are from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Because of crowds, Parks officials suggest attending the show about 4 p.m. when the sun sets.

CHENEY
Energy savers can get cash reward
If your house plugs into Cheney’s electrical line, you can likely get some money back for appliances you buy labeled “energy star.”
A city program honors those purchases by giving residents up to 40 percent back of the money the appliance saved as it conserved energy.
Washers, dishwashers and refrigerators are the most common appliances for the “energy star” program, said an official at the Sears store in Cheney.
To qualify, people must present proof they use Cheney Light Department power and the proof of purchase or receipt for the appliance. The resulting refund is decided with a computer program designed by the Bonneville Power Administration.
For more information, contact the Cheney Light Department at 498-9230 or bring the necessary paperwork to the City Utility Building at 112 Anderson Road.
