Parade kicks off holiday entertainment
BAYVIEW – Holiday entertainment is happening big time in Bayview, starting with the great little parade last Saturday evening.
Not to be overshadowed by New York City, or whatever they call themselves, Bayview cranked out an impromptu parade of lighted vehicles, plus goodies being tossed to the throngs lining the frigid route. Consisting of whatever folks could throw together quickly, the plan materialized quickly, organized primarily by Phil Stephan.
Tree-lighting ceremony Sunday
The Bayview Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a tree-lighting ceremony Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best outdoor decorations. Bring the whole family and join your neighbors for the tree-lighting, carols, refreshments, good will and, of course, Santa. Food bank donations for Christmas baskets will be accepted. Your generosity keeps those in need going, until they can help themselves.
Wheel entertainment
There will be live music Saturday at the Captain’s Wheel, featuring the No Jugs Band. The usual antics will occur with George Bruner, vocals and lead guitar, Rick Steiner, keyboard and vocals, and Steve Cripe on drums. There are usually drop-in friends of the band, so the evening will undoubtedly feature others. Last time, we had a sax player and another guest singer.
Dinner to benefit Y.E.S.
Bayview’s Buttonhook Restaurant, although closed for the winter, is hosting a charity dinner Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. Youth Equipped for Success is the recipient of the restaurant’s largess; $7.95 buys a gourmet dinner of barbecue ribs and braised chicken, coleslaw or potato salad, beans and biscuits. There will be a charity raffle and prizes.
Y.E.S is a nonprofit organization that has a novel approach to mentoring children. This multiservice organization assists youth and their families in identifying their potential, helping them to overcome roadblocks, and allowing them an opportunity to experience success. Services include tutoring, mentoring, recreation activities, GED assistance, social integration and personal development.
Open house, Christmas party
Dusie’s Studios will hold an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 16, 842 Glacier Loop Road in Bayview. Directions can be obtained by calling Susie Snider at (208) 683-2959.
Snider is a well-known pastel artist. Door prizes, pastel painting demonstrations, paintings, prints, cards and aroma therapy gift items will be available. Stop here early, because, if you don’t, you’ll miss the Captain’s Wheel Annual Christmas party on the same day.
We can’t count how many Christmas parties have been held annually at the Captain’s Wheel, but at least 12 years. Many of those were proud to feature the Country Music Hall of Famer, Slim Dossey. Up in years and afflicted with the aches and pains that accompany age, Slim is having a bit of trouble getting around these days.
This year, the band, Good n’ Plenty will be featured, but Dossey will make a special guest appearance. A potluck dinner will be served, but if you don’t bring food, don’t worry; come on down anyway. The party will start at 3 p.m. and go until 7.
The Captain’s Wheel leads the way in Bayview entertainment on Dec. 22 presenting the band Wyser. Chris Grandchamp, sound tech extraordinaire, is going to record a CD of this live performance. This is a can’t-miss gig.
