Marquette gets big win
Dominic James scored 20 points and No. 11 Marquette ended Wisconsin’s 28-home game winning streak with an 81-76 victory Saturday in Madison, Wis.
Marquette (6-1) put a halt to Wisconsin’s recent dominance in the state’s biggest basketball rivalry and ended the Badgers’ home streak that was the third-longest in Division I.
Wisconsin (6-2) had won seven of the previous nine meetings between the schools, and had not lost at home to Marquette since 1997.
Jerel McNeal added 14 points and Dwight Burke added 12 points and nine rebounds for the undersized Golden Eagles.
Brian Butch scored 17 points and Trevon Hughes added 16 for the Badgers.
(3) Kansas 84, DePaul 66: At Lawrence, Kan., Sasha Kaun scored the first six points in a 24-1 first-half run that sent the Jayhawks (9-0) soaring past the Blue Demons (2-3).
(4) Texas 80, Rice 54: At Houston, A.J. Abrams, D.J. Augustin and Damion James scored 18 points each to lead the Longhorns to a win over the Owls (2-6).
The win gives the Longhorns a 9-0 record for the first time since the 1981-82 season.
(6) Duke 95, Michigan 67: At Durham, N.C., Gerald Henderson had 12 points and DeMarcus Nelson and Jon Scheyer added 10 apiece for the Blue Devils (9-0), who took control with a 14-0 run in the first half to beat the Wolverines (3-6).
(7) UCLA 75, Davidson 63: At Anaheim, Calif., Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored 21 points and the seventh-ranked Bruins (8-1) made up an 18-point deficit to beat the Wildcats (3-5) in the John Wooden Classic.
(9) Michigan State 68, BYU 61: At Salt Lake City, Drew Neitzel scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, Goran Suton had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Raymar Morgan scored 17 points to lead the Spartans (8-1) past the Cougars (7-2).
Wright State 43, (13) Butler 42: At Fairborn, Ohio, Scottie Wilson and Todd Brown both scored 10 points to lead the Raiders (3-2, 1-1 Horizon) to an upset win over the Bulldogs (8-1, 1-1).
Butler had a last chance at the win, but A.J. Graves missed a 3-point attempt from the top of the key with 3 seconds left.
Dayton 70, (14) Louisville 65: At Louisville, Ky., Brian Roberts scored 28 points for the Flyers (7-1), who spoiled Rick Pitino’s bid to become the 17th active Division I coach with 500 victories by beating the Cardinals (5-2).
(15) Indiana 70, Kentucky 51: At Bloomington, Ind., Jordan Crawford scored 20 points in his first career start and led the Hoosiers (8-1) to a rout over the border rival Wildcats (4-3).
(16) Texas A&M 109, Texas State 73: At College Station, Texas, DeAndre Jordan and Donald Sloan scored 18 points each and the Aggies (8-1) cruised to a victory over the Bobcats (5-3).
(19) Oregon 75, Utah 64: At Portland, Bryce Taylor scored a season-high 20 points and the Ducks (7-1) defeated the Utes (5-3).
Tajuan Porter had 16 points and Maarty Leunen and Joevan Catron each added 11 for the Ducks.
(22) Arizona 78, Illinois 72 (OT): At Chicago, freshman Jerryd Bayless made six free throws in the final 31 seconds of overtime to lead the Wildcats (6-2) to a victory over the Illini (5-3).
(23) Vanderbilt 90, Lipscomb 67: At Nashville, Tenn., A.J. Ogilvy scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Commodores (9-0) to a victory over the Bisons (4-6).
