In brief: Vigil honors victims of drunken drivers
The Traffic Safety Emphasis Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving will hold a candlelight vigil Friday at 7 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Memorial area of the Public Safety Building, 1100 W. Mallon.
The vigil will be part of the Night of 1,000 Stars, which will put badges on the estimated 1,000 officers who will be on the road Friday looking for drivers who drink.
The vigil will remember lives lost to impaired driving.

Chance to adopt at wiener dog party
Dachshund Rescue Northwest will present its Fourth Annual Wiener Dog Christmas Party Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lilac City Dog Training Club, 1612 E. Houston.
The event will feature homeless dachshunds looking for families to love them, a holiday dog costume contest and bobbing for hot dogs.
All small-breed dogs are welcome. There will also be a potluck dinner. The cost to attend is $5 per dog.

Shelter in need of blankets
With temperatures dropping and snow falling, the Hope House, 111 W. Third Ave., is in urgent need of blankets.
The shelter is one of the warming centers designated for the city when temperatures drop below 10 degrees.
Blankets will be accepted at the shelter between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or at the Volunteers of America Crosswalk, 525 W. Second Ave., at any time.
