In brief: Pair appointed to planning panel
Craig Eggleston and Art Sharpe have been appointed by Spokane Valley Mayor Diana Wilhite to the Spokane Valley Planning Commission.
Eggleston is a graduate of Central Valley High School who holds a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology and communications from Eastern Washington University. A six-year resident of Spokane Valley, he has served as a Block Watch captain for five years. He is president of the Valley Christian School Booster Club and has served as a political party precinct officer for six years.
Sharpe is a manager/designated broker for Tomlinson Black Valley Inc., where he has been employed since 2006. He’s been a member of the board of directors for the Spokane Association of Realtors steering committee, where he also served as chair. He has been a Spokane Valley resident for 34 years.
The Planning Commission studies and makes recommendations to the mayor and City Council on future planned growth in Spokane Valley, and was instrumental in developing the city’s first Comprehensive Plan and Uniform Development Code.
Other commissioners are Gail Kogle, Fred Beaulac, John Carroll, Ian Robertson and Marcia Sands. Commissioners are not compensated for their service and meet twice monthly on the second and fourth Thursdays throughout their three-year terms.

Parks and Rec classes start soon
Activities from Lego engineering projects to dancing for seniors are available through the Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department winter program beginning next month.
Zany zoo animals, healthy bodies and music appreciation are some of the topics covered in preschool classes beginning in January. Children ages 7 to 9 can design a balloon-powered rocket cat in the Lego class. Pickleball and weekly themed dances are among the senior activities.

Holiday concert Monday, Tuesday
The Clarion Brass, an ensemble which includes some of the best musicians in the area, will conduct a holiday concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors.
The ensemble also will play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St.
