Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga is discussing the sale of his struggling franchise to two real estate developers, The Associated Press has learned.

“Wayne loves the team and he loves the community, but he’s very frustrated,” the person close to Huizenga, who didn’t want to be identified because of the private nature of the negotiations, said Friday night.

A Dolphins spokesman said Huizenga declined to comment. Huizenga has in the past said the Dolphins were not for sale.

The Miami Herald first reported the talks.

The newspaper said Jorge Perez of Miami confirmed that he and business partner Stephen Ross, a New York builder, are talking with Huizenga about the potential deal.

“We are looking at it very, very seriously,” Perez told the newspaper.

The Dolphins are 0-13 in their first year under coach Cam Cameron, and they’re in danger of the first 0-16 season in NFL history.

Bulger will start

Marc Bulger is back as the St. Louis Rams’ starting quarterback after a full week of practice with no concussion-related symptoms.

With backup Gus Frerotte also healthy after making a remarkable recovery from a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, the Rams are suddenly loaded at the position.

Last week, Bulger and Frerotte were out and Brock Berlin was elevated from the practice squad to start in his NFL debut at Cincinnati.

Roethlisberger practices

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced Friday after sitting out two days because of a sore right shoulder, a sign he expects to play Sunday against Jacksonville.

Steelers players normally must take part in the final full practice of the week on Fridays before they can play on Sundays.

Wilson’s season over

Bills starting free safety George Wilson was placed on injured reserve, ending his season less than a week after he broke two ribs.

Wilson becomes Buffalo’s fifth defensive regular and 14th player to be placed on the season-ending list this year. Coach Dick Jauron had been hoping that Wilson would be able to return should the Bills make the playoffs.

Officer won’t face charges

A police officer won’t face criminal charges for shooting and wounding former San Diego Chargers linebacker Steve Foley during a late-night confrontation in September 2006.

San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said Officer Aaron Mansker acted in self-defense.

Mansker was off duty, out of uniform and driving his own car on Sept. 3, 2006, when he tailed Foley to his suburban home on suspicion that the football player was driving drunk.

Foley, who was unarmed, got out of the car to confront Mansker, who responded by shooting the player in the left leg, hip and hand. The injuries ended Foley’s football career.

Foley pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor drunken driving charges.
