Religion notebook: Children help present Christmas story
‘Tis the season of children’s Christmas pageant, and Valley churches are hosting several this week. There’s nothing that says Christmas quite like kids dressed up in robes and other costumes, acting out the Christmas story.
“ The children of Opportunity Presbyterian Church will perform a Christmas musical called “Carriers of the Light” during the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. The church is at 202 N. Pines Road.
“ A Christmas pageant will be performed by the children and youth of the Veradale United Church of Christ during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. During the service the church will also be collecting food items for holiday baskets handed out by the Valley Food Bank. Needed items include potatoes, cranberries, canned pumpkin, olives, yams, packaged puddings, stuffing, turkeys and hams. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.
“ Opportunity Christian Church will host its annual children’s Christmas program, called “Christmas Eve at Angel School,” at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church at 708 N. Pines Road. A potluck dinner will follow the performance, so those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Rumor has it a certain red-suited man will make an appearance.
The church will also have a kid’s craft workshop today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children ages 4 to 11 may attend and make Christmas crafts. Lunch will be served. The cost is $3 per child.
“ The children of Zion Lutheran Church will present “Miracle on Main Street” during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
Christmas Cantatas
“ The choirs of several Valley Lutheran churches are teaming up to perform the Christmas cantata “Night of Alleliuas” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave. Participating churches include Holy Trinity Lutheran, Good Shepherd Lutheran, Christ Lutheran, Peace Lutheran, Bethlehem Lutheran and Zion Lutheran. All are welcome to attend. “ The choir of Foothills Community Church will perform the cantata “The Heart of Christmas” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A dessert potluck will follow. Those attending are asked to bring treats to share. The church is at 11102 N. Forker Road.
Christmas gathering
Santa Claus is coming to town for the annual Christmas party and potluck dinner hosted by The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection at 5 p.m. Sunday. Those attending are asked to bring a main dish and dessert to share. All are welcome. The church is at 15319 E. Eighth Ave.
Birthday party
Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host a birthday party for Jesus from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be fun activities and cake for the kids. All are welcome. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.
Christmas Tea
Millwood Presbyterian Church will host a combined worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to be followed by a Christmas tea at 10:45. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
Bake sale
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will host a bake sale Sunday between services at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the church’s fund to replace the boiler.
