How do I … transfer e-books into my iPod?

Last year Sony released a slick e-book reader. This year Amazon released the Kindle. Both are great, but expensive. What about an alternative that transfers e-books into your iPod?

We’re glad you asked.

First, find the books you want in .txt form (by using Google or another search site) and then download the full text. Some books might be in different formats like .doc or .pdf, so you then need to use some other tool like Zamzar.com to first convert them to .txt.

Then head over to iPod Book Creator at www.ambience.sk/ ipod-ebook-creator. Upload your book file into the site’s converter, which produces a file in iPod’s Notes format. You can then zip and download the book back to your desktop, then sync it into your iPod.

This works fine when you need backup reading material for a trip.
