College basketball: Jayhawks hold off Georgia Tech
Russell Robinson, more accustomed to setting up other scorers, took his turn on the Kansas high-scorer carousel against Georgia Tech.
Robinson scored 17 points, becoming the Jayhawks’ seventh different leading scorer in 11 games, and No. 3 Kansas (11-0) survived a last-minute scare to remain unbeaten with a 71-66 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night at Atlanta.
After Georgia Tech (4-5) cut the Kansas lead to one point with 9 seconds left, Sherron Collins made two free throws and then had a steal and layup to clinch the victory.
Lewis Clinch led the Yellow Jackets with 22 points.
(4) Texas 66, Oral Roberts 56: At Austin, Texas, D.J. Augustin scored 24 points and the Longhorns survived their toughest home game this season with a victory over the Golden Eagles.
Texas (11-0) needed Augustin’s dazzling drives and late free-throw shooting to put the game away. Adam Liberty led ORU (6-4) with 12 points.
(8) UCLA 77, W. Illinois 52: At Los Angeles, Kevin Love made all of his shots in a 16-point performance and the Bruins beat the Leathernecks.
The freshman was 5 of 5 from the field and the free-throw line, hit his only 3-pointer and grabbed seven rebounds for UCLA (10-1).
Western Illinois (3-7) has lost five of its last six.
Women
(5) Stanford 73, New Mexico 54: At Albuquerque, N.M., Candice Wiggins scored 18 of her 21 points in the first half, Jayne Appel added 18 points as the Cardinal (9-1) beat the Lobos.
Amy Beggin led New Mexico (7-4) with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
(8) LSU 86, Illinois-Chicago 44: Sylvia Fowles scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures as the Lady Tigers (8-2) routed the Flames (3-6) at the Cancun (Mexico) Classic.
