Soap star Reynolds a strong supporter of troops
Since 1981, James Reynolds has starred as Abe Carver on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives,” certainly logging more hours on TV than most actors can ever dream of. Admired worldwide for his humanitarian and charitable efforts, Reynolds has received numerous awards for his work in front of the camera and within communities that have special needs.
As busy as he is with “Days” and other TV guest appearances, he and his wife, actress Lissa Layng, own and operate The Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena, Calif.
Reynolds, a former Marine who served in Vietnam, is active in the USO Celebrity Education Program. He recently visited Department of Defense Education Activity schools in Germany and Iceland to speak with students about the importance of staying in school. Previously he had visited U.S. troops in Kuwait with the USO.
“I was glad to have come to see them, to tell them how proud the folks back home were for their service,” James said. “I would be back, I promised. Not to repay an old debt of another war, but to show my appreciation for America’s new warriors.”

“A big heaping bowl of ice cream. I have never heard of anyone disliking ice cream. It would be a great treat, and the right ice cream might be a little healthy. It also makes you feel good!”

“Obviously barbecue is a great Kansas tradition. I always bring back a cooler full whenever I return. Of course Kansas is known for growing wheat, so bread, or at least its primary ingredient, is the next food product it should be known for.”

James Reynolds’ Good Time Three-Chip Cookies
1 cup cream cheese
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or soy flour
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 cups of super chunky peanut butter (low-fat if possible)
1 1/2 cups of low-fat margarine
1/4 cup vanilla
2 tablespoons nutmeg
3 eggs
1/2 pound bag peanut butter chips
1/2 pound bag vanilla chips
1/2 pound bag chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly butter a cookie sheet. In a large bowl, mix the peanut butter, cream cheese, margarine and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, salt and nutmeg and mix. Slowly add the flour. Once all of this is mixed, begin to add the chips. Use a wooden spoon to mix. Then using the spoon, put dollops of mixture on the sheets. Bake until done, about 10 minutes.
