In brief: Chamber seeks nominations
The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber is accepting nominations for the 2007 Awards of Excellence.
Nomination deadline is Dec. 28. Categories are Harry E. Nelson Citizen of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year, Nonprofit Organization of the Year, Chamber Member Volunteer of the Year and Community Caring Award. Nomination forms and criteria are on Web at www.spokanevalleychamber.org.
Winners will be honored at the Fifth Annual Awards Gala Jan. 26 at Mirabeau Park Hotel. Tickets are on sale at the Chamber for $40 per person. Social hour and silent auction is scheduled at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:30, awards at 8:30 and dancing to NuJack City at 9.

Montessori plans open house
Liberty Lake Montessori preschool and kindergarten will celebrate its 20th anniversary Saturday with an open house and refreshments from 2 to 6 p.m.

Registration open for CYT classes
Christian Youth Theater is accepting registration for theatre arts classes that begin the week of Jan. 7 in Spokane Valley. Classes are for youths ages 6 to 18 and run 10 weeks.
At the end of the session there will be a showcase for friends and family to show-off what the children have learned. Classes offered include accents and dialect, stage fighting, hip-hop, core acting, singing and dancing, Salute to Disney and many more.
All students enrolled in a class are eligible to audition for “A Little Mermaid,” which runs Feb. 22 through March 1 at the Bing Crosby Theater.

SCRAPS closed Christmas Eve
The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will be closed Monday because of President Bush’s executive order regarding government office closures on Christmas Eve.
Cindy Taskila, SCRAPS shelter officer, said many “lovely, happy adolescent and adult dogs and cats” are available through Saturday.
“We send our very young puppies and kittens to Spokane Humane Society, as they can offer a quiet and warm environment for young animals” says Nancy Hill, SCRAPS director.
SCRAPS, 2521 N. Flora Road, is open for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and Friday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 477-2532.
