BAYVIEW – There was a great response for the Youth Equipped for Success benefit dinner last Saturday night at Bayviews’ Button Hook Restaurant.

Closed for the winter, The Hook was offered to Shelley Tschida , spokeswoman for YES, by Tina Arendt, general manager for Waterford Park Marina. A full house turned out for the event, which featured baby back ribs and barbecue chicken.

Mentoring children who perhaps, in some cases, don’t have the opportunity to fully develop or assimilate into society, is one of many programs offered by YES. It’s a multiservice organization assisting youths and their families in identifying their potential, helping them to overcome roadblocks, and allowing them an opportunity to experience success. Services include tutoring, mentoring, recreation activities, GED assistance, social integration and development.

Based in Spirit Lake, the YES serves areas including Athol, Bayview, Careywood and surrounding areas. For more information, call Tschida at 623-2539.

Burning Gods of Love play the Wheel

Santa Claus won’t be entertaining the folks in Bayview on Saturday, but the Burning Gods of Love will. They will be appearing at the Captain’s Wheel.

I know, you are wondering how the band got its name. It’s a long story, but essentially, the bass player and the drummer got together and well … I’m sure you don’t want the details. George Bruner on guitar, the aforementioned drummer, Kevin Huff, and the also aforementioned bass player, Daveanna Huff, make up this exciting band. This appears to be the only local entertainment until after Christmas, which of course, brings us to New Year’s Eve.

Party time

There are only two public parties known to us in this area. The American Legion, Post 149 in Athol has George Bruner and friends performing for entertainment on New Year’s Eve. No cover charge, but if you wish to take advantage of the prime rib dinner, reservations are required; singles, $20 and couples, $35.

New Year’s Eve in Bayview the party is at the Captain’s Wheel again. The Keep, a popular Spokane Band that has played Bayview before, will be holding forth.
