Marquette wins in rout
Dominic James and Jerel McNeal scored 18 points each and No. 10 Marquette beat Coppin State 89-42 on Friday night in Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles (9-1) held Eagles (3-9) scoreless for more than 7 minutes during a dominant 22-0 run that put the game out of reach midway through the second half.
Lazar Hayward added 17 for the Golden Eagles, who have won five straight since losing to Duke in the Maui Invitational.
(15) Clemson 90, DePaul 74: At Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Trevor Booker scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Tigers (10-0) over the Blue Demons (2-7) in the San Juan Shootout.
Booker was one of six players in double figures for Clemson, which got 15 points from Cliff Hammonds and 14 from Demontez Stitt.
(21) BYU 70, S. Utah 55: At Provo, Utah, Jonathan Tavernari scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and the Cougars (10-2) extended their home winning streak to 38 games with the win over the T-Birds (2-10).
Women’s basketball
(2) Connecticut 85, San Diego State 53: At San Diego, Renee Montgomery scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half and Brittany Hunter added 14 points to lead the Huskies (9-0) to a rout of the Aztecs (8-2).
Paris Johnson was the only Aztecs player in double figures with 14 points.
