GU students doin’ their job

The Spokesman-Review

As a college student at WSU and a supporter of both the WSU and Gonzaga men’s basketball programs, I am sick of hearing people rip on student fans.

The point of having home-court advantage is to rattle the other team and get in the head of their opponent. GU has earned the reputation of having some of the best fans in the country. Ask any player or coach and they will tell you the reason they have become nationally recognized is due in large part to their fans.

Obviously Jim House (“GU student behavior bad,” Dec. 16) has not seen many college basketball games. Go to any major sporting event and I guarantee the crowd will boo the opposing team.

Ever heard of the “Cameron Crazies?” The Duke students are known as the most die-hard fans for their school. They didn’t do this by providing respect to the other school, but coming up with cheers that disrespect them to the point it takes them out of their game.

GU students do not act that way to disrespect anyone, but rather to support their team and give them the advantage. Remember, fan is short for “fanatic.”
