Ending snow events at Downriver a mistake
I have lived within sight of the first tee of the Downriver golf course for 16 years. One of the pleasures of winter is watching and hearing the happy shouts of children sledding on the hills; the quiet contentment of cross-country skiers and snowshoers on the fairways.
What possible damage can this do to the course, which I believe is public property paid for by the citizens’ tax dollars?
This town, which professes to be “Near Nature, Near Perfect,” has taken away the wading pools, allowed the public swimming pools to disintegrate and discontinued the activities in the city parks. How can we expect coming generations to respect our environment if they are barred from enjoying it? I can’t imagine how the Park Board can justify their actions.
We rarely have more than a dozen days every winter when we get enough snow to even cover the town’s hills – there is no justification for this decision by the Park Board. Let’s rectify this mistake; let’s get it right – for once!
