In brief: Snow, travel warning issued for Panhandle
Travel along Interstate 90 east of Coeur d’Alene could prove dangerous today because of heavy snowfall, the National Weather Service said Thursday night.
The agency’s Spokane office issued a heavy snow warning for Kellogg, Wallace, Osburn and Mullan along I-90, and for Plummer and St. Maries south of Coeur d’Alene, and Moscow and other parts of the Idaho Palouse.
“Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous” in the I-90 corridor in Idaho, forecasters said in the warning, expected to be in effect until 4 p.m. today.
Up to 3 inches of snow in the Spokane area and up to 4 inches around Coeur d’Alene was expected overnight, with snowfall likely to continue today and into the weekend.
The likelihood of more snow was expected to drop off Sunday.

Settlement reached in cleanup lawsuit
The owner and two former owners of the City Parcel Inc. site in Spokane have reached settlements with the state that require them to help pay for pollution cleanup. The site is at 708 N. Cook St.
The public has until Jan. 24 to comment on the settlements between the state Department of Ecology, owner Paul Gisselberg and former owners Richard Boyce and Jerry Overton. Under the agreements, the three men will contribute about $270,000 to the cleanup effort, estimated to cost more than $1 million. The state will cover the rest.
The settlements are the result of a state lawsuit after unsafe levels of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, were found at the site and the men failed to comply with cleanup requirements, according to a news release from the department.
The public can review settlement documents at the department’s Spokane office, 4601 N. Monroe St., or at the east side branch of the Spokane Public Library, 524 S. Stone St. To review the documents at the Department of Ecology, contact Johnnie Landis at (509) 329-3415.
