Pirates defeat Ospreys

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – David Riley scored a game-high 21 points and Ross Nakamura added 14 points and eight assists as the Whitworth men’s basketball team beat Richard Stockton 60-50 in the opening round of the CSI Tournament of Heroes on Saturday.

Ryan Symes added 13 points for the Pirates, who shot 21 of 35 from the field while the Ospreys shot 19 of 48.

Whitworth outscored Richard Stockton by four points in the first half and then put the game away in the second, outscoring the Ospreys 34-28.

Jerome Hubbard tallied 14 points to guide Richard Stockton.

The Pirates shot 11 of 19 from beyond the arc while the Ospreys converted 6 of 24 3-pointers.

Whitworth, which plays Bridgewater State (N.Y.) for the title today, improved to 5-1 on the season while Richard Stockton fell to 5-2.
