NHL: Toronto ousts Ottawa

John Pohl scored on Toronto’s fifth shootout attempt and the Maple Leafs matched their longest winning streak of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night in Ottawa.

Goalie Andrew Raycroft, who made 30 saves, stopped Jason Spezza’s shot after Pohl scored with a backhand over Ray Emery’s right pad.

Penguins 2, Capitals 0: At Pittsburgh, scoring stars Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin were shut out in an unexpected defensive duel, with Pittsburgh checking line forward Ronald Petrovicky scoring the pivotal goal as the Penguins beat Washington.

Islanders 4, Canadiens 2: At Montreal, Trent Hunter scored his second goal with 11:36 left in the game to send New York to a win over Montreal.

Hunter extended his points streak to six games.

Oilers 3, Avalanche 2: At Denver, Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff scored 30 seconds apart in the third period to help Edmonton beat Colorado.

Ales Hemsky added a goal, and Smyth and Horcoff also each had an assist for Edmonton.

Sharks 4, Blackhawks 2: At San Jose, Calif., Vesa Toskala made 20 saves and recorded San Jose’s first multipoint game by a goalie, getting two first-period assists in the Sharks’ victory over Chicago.

Flyers 5, Thrashers 2: At Atlanta, Mike York and Simon Gagne scored goals in a 57-second span early in the third period to help Philadelphia beat Atlanta.

Kings 7, Panthers 0: At Sunrise, Fla., Sean Burke made 40 saves for his 38th career shutout, and Alexander Frolov and Michael Cammalleri each scored twice to help Los Angeles beat Florida.

Lightning 3, Rangers 2: At Tampa, Fla., Vincent Lecavalier scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with 8:07 left in the third period to help Tampa Bay beat New York.

Johan Holmqvist made 24 saves for the Lightning.

Devils 3, Sabres 2: At East Rutherford, N.J., John Madden, Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise scored in a 2:31 span early in the third period to lead New Jersey to a victory over Buffalo.

Blues 2, Stars 0: At St. Louis, Martin Rucinsky and Keith Tkachuk each scored, and Manny Legace made 22 saves to help St. Louis snap a three-game losing streak with a victory over Dallas.

Predators 3, Ducks 0: At Nashville, Tenn., Tomas Vokoun made 36 saves for his third shutout of the season and 19th overall in Nashville’s victory over Anaheim.

Dan Hamhuis, Jason Arnott and Steve Sullivan scored for Nashville.

Bruins 4, Hurricanes 3 (OT): At Raleigh, N.C., Zdeno Chara scored a power-play goal with 3:11 left in overtime and Boston beat Carolina.

The Bruins rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two goals in the second period.

Wild 1, Coyotes 0: At Glendale, Ariz., Marian Gaborik scored 12 seconds into the second period, and Niklas Backstrom stopped 29 shots in Minnesota’s victory over Phoenix.

Flames 4, Canucks 3: At Calgary, Alberta, Calgary trailed 2-0 after the first period, but stormed back with four unanswered goals – two in the second period and two more in the third – to get the victory over Vancouver.
