Prescription guidelines

The Spokesman-Review

New state guidelines are expected to recommend that doctors use extra caution when prescribing maximum daily doses of 120 milligrams of morphine or its equivalent. Experts recommend more scrutiny when dosages reach the following amounts of these six commonly prescribed drugs.

120 milligrams morphine

40 milligrams methadone for chronic use

80 milligrams oxycodone

120 milligrams hydrocodone

50 micrograms per hour Fentanyl transdermal patch

800 milligrams codeine
