Bears finally find way to beat Cardinal

Devanei Hampton had a big second half to finish with 22 points and 14 rebounds and No. 21 California ended a 14-game losing streak to rival Stanford, beating the eighth-ranked Cardinal for the first time in nearly six years with a 72-57 victory Sunday in Stanford, Calif.

The Cardinal (9-4, 11-1 Pac-10) struggled on offense, relying too much on the 3-point shot, and had its 17-game winning streak snapped in its first Pac-10 defeat. It was the team’s longest unbeaten run since getting 23 in a row two years ago.

Freshman Natasha Vital added a season-best 19 points for the Bears (18-5, 8-4).

(4) Maryland 71, Boston College 39: At College Park, Md., Shay Doron scored 15 points and the Terrapins (22-3, 6-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) routed the Eagles (11-12, 1-8).

(5) Ohio State 85, Iowa 49: At Columbus, Ohio, Jessica Davenport scored 22 points to lead the Buckeyes (21-1, 10-0 Big Ten) past the Hawkeyes (11-12, 3-7).

(7) LSU 49, South Carolina 46: At Columbia, S.C., Sylvia Fowles had 23 points and 20 rebounds and the Lady Tigers (21-3, 7-2 Southeastern Conference) beat the Gamecocks (13-11, 3-6).

(9) Oklahoma 78, Oklahoma State 63: At Norman, Okla., Courtney Paris recorded 41 points and 19 rebounds, and the Sooners (18-3, 8-2 Big 12) defeated the Cowgirls (15-7, 3-6).

(15) Vanderbilt 91, Alabama 51: At Nashville, Tenn., Caroline Williams scored 17 points to lead the Commodores (20-4, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) to a victory over the Crimson Tide (10-14, 0-9).

(17) Bowling Green 73, Toledo 62: At Bowling Green, Ohio, Liz Honegger scored 20 points and the Falcons (20-2, 9-0 Mid-American Conference) beat the Rockets (7-14, 3-6).

(23) Michigan State 80, Illinois 70: At East Lansing, Mich., sophomore Mia Johnson scored a game-high 22 points and Alisha Jefferson added 19 to lead the Spartans (17-6, 8-2 Big Ten) past the Illini (16-6, 6-4).
