Fundraiser

VCS auction will be March 16

“Oh, the Places We’ll Go!” is the theme for Valley Christian School’s auction event this year.

The auction will be held at 6 p.m. March 16 in the gym at the school’s secondary campus at the old University High School, 10212 E. Ninth Ave. Proceeds will benefit the general education fund.

Some of the items up for bid include adventure packages, vacation weekends, spa relaxation, theater tickets and a private jet trip. All-you-can-eat appetizers and drinks are available for $10 per ticket.

Family attractions

Model railroad events planned

The River City Modelers will hold a free open house at what is billed as possibly the largest model train set between Seattle and St. Paul, Minn., next week as part of Model Railroad Month.

Kids and adults can see a layout that includes 1,500 feet of track from 7 to 9:30 p.m. next Saturday at 11811 E. First Ave., in the Giorgio’s Fitness Center building.

Enthusiasts also are invited to the model train show at Spokane Community College from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18. The show takes place in the Lair building at the center of campus.

Admission to the train show is $5 for adults, $3 for children 11 to 16, and free for younger kids.

Mr. University pageant Monday

Titan cheerleaders will hold their annual Mr. University pageant at 7 p.m. Monday at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave.

Ten senior boys, nominated by the faculty, will vie for the title. Prizes, awarded to Mr. University, Mr. Congeniality and the winner of the talent contest include pizzas, dinners at local restaurants, free bowling and iTune cards, all donated by local businesses.

Admission is $5. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to University’s genocide project for humanitarian aid for the Darfur region of the Sudan.

Conference

Lakes meeting to address issues

The sixth annual Eastern Washington/North Idaho Regional Lakes Conference takes place today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spokane Community College.

Hosted by the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District and the SCC Water Resources Program, the conference was started for lake residents and associations to exchange information and learn more about lakes and watersheds. Attendees may attend programs on water quality, milfoil control, shoreline restoration and other issues.

The free event will be at the SCC Lair, 1810 N. Greene St.
