My favorite car: 1978 Ltd. Edition Corvette Pace Car
Name: Rick and Linda Ziehnert, Mead.
Purchased: About eight years ago.
Why we love it: As a young man, I always dreamed of owning a Corvette. Trouble was, whenever I got a few bucks together I would buy a Camaro, Mustang, Chevelle or some other muscle car. Besides, at that age insurance on a Corvette would have broke me. While driving from Deer Park to Spokane one day this car caught my eye. It looked great from a distance, but up close needed paint and a bit of mechanical help. But the car dealer made me a great deal, so I bought it … then I told my wife. She wasn’t exactly thrilled at first, but fell in love with it the first time she drove it. We recently had it painted and will “spruce up” the interior next. This model of Corvette is fairly rare. In 1978 there were 46,776 Corvettes manufactured, but only 6,205 were Pace Car models, which meant about one per Chevrolet dealer.
Our next car will be: Gonna have to wait on this as we just purchased a 2006 Mustang GT last year, but definitely either another mid-‘60s to early ‘70s muscle car or the new Dodge Challenger (if it’s not overpriced).
