Jagr reaches 1,500 points in victory

Jaromir Jagr became the 12th player in NHL history to score 1,500 points, earning three assists to help the New York Rangers beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 Saturday night at Washington.

Jagr reached the mark by setting up power-play goals by Michal Rozsival in the first and third periods.

The Rangers captain added a third assist with 13:51 left, sending a centering pass that Martin Straka fired past Olie Kolzig to provide New York with a two-goal cushion.

Stars 1, Ducks 0: At Dallas, Jussi Jokinen scored a power-play goal early in the third period and rookie Mike Smith stopped 32 shots for his third shutout as Dallas beat Anaheim.

Dallas stopped all six Anaheim power plays.

Wild 5, Hurricanes 4: At St. Paul, Minn., Marian Gaborik scored twice on the power play to highlight a four-goal first period by Minnesota, and the Wild hung on to beat Carolina.

Flyers 4, Blues 3: At Philadelphia, Simon Gagne scored his second goal of the game 27 seconds into overtime as Philadelphia defeated St. Louis.

Gagne tied the game at 3 with a deflection of Derian Hatcher’s shot with 4:55 left in regulation.

Sabres 3, Flames 2 (SO): At Buffalo, N.Y., Ales Kotalik scored the lone shootout goal, rallying Buffalo to a win over Calgary.

Ryan Miller stopped 23 shots through overtime and all three shootout attempts for Buffalo.

Penguins 6, Maple Leafs 5 (OT): At Toronto, Jordan Staal scored his third goal of the game at 3:54 of overtime to lead Pittsburgh over Toronto.

Maple Leafs center Kris Newbury was taken off the ice on a stretcher late in the third period after a fight with Pittsburgh’s Ronald Petrovicky.

Kings 4, Predators 1: At Nashville, Tenn., rookie Anze Kopitar scored two goals and Los Angeles beat Nashville.

Senators 5, Canadiens 3: At Montreal, Daniel Alfredsson set up Wade Redden on a power play in the second period and assisted on Mike Fisher’s goal early in the third as Ottawa recovered from blowing an early lead for a win over Montreal.

Bruins 4, Islanders 3 (SO): At Boston, Zdeno Chara scored his first career shootout goal in his initial attempt, lifting Boston to a win over New York.

Marco Sturm had two goals in regulation, and Patrice Bergeron also scored for Boston.

Panthers 5, Coyotes 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Nathan Horton, Olli Jokinen, Martin Gelinas and Chris Gratton each had a goal and an assist in Florida’s victory against Phoenix.

Canucks 3, Thrashers 2: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison scored 10 seconds apart in the second period, and Roberto Luongo stopped 27 shots to lift Vancouver to a win over Atlanta.

Off the ice

Shortly after general manager Darcy Regier announced that forward Paul Gaustad was to miss the rest of the season with a sliced tendon in his left leg, Sabres defenseman Jaroslav Spacek broke his left hand blocking a shot during a shootout win over Calgary.

•The Boston Bruins traded defenseman Brad Stuart and forward Wayne Primeau to the Calgary Flames for defenseman Andrew Ference and forward Chuck Kobasew.
