Selkirk snowmobilers aim for full house

The annual Selkirk Trailblazers Snowmobile Poker Run, a great family event, is set for Feb. 17 based out of Ione.

Riders use groomed trails, enjoy food, warming fires, door prizes and collect cards along the route. The top three poker hands will win a total of $1,600.

Check in: 8 a.m.-11 a.m., take Sullivan Lake Road 1 mile south of Ione, follow signs. Cost: $10 or three poker hands for $25.

Utah climber dies

An ice climber fell 200 feet to his death last week near Bridal Veil Falls up Provo Canyon, Utah.

The man apparently fell from the upper tier of an ice formation known as “Stairway to Heaven.”

OUTSTANDING

Dishman Hills group gains ground

At its annual meeting in January, the Dishman Hills Natural Area Association reported an impressive $70,000 in 2006 donations. Founded in 1966, the group has raised funds to secure and preserve hundreds of acres in the Dishman area.

About $57,000 of the 2006 donations were earmarked for acquiring the Big Rock addition. That deal is still pending.

Learn to snowshoe

A snowshoeing class sponsored by Spokane Parks and Recreation will be making tracks on Mount Spokane on Saturday.

Cost: $20 with own equipment or $27 with rental gear, includes transportation, instruction and guide.
