Common sense conditioning

The Spokesman-Review

The “Five new solutions for cold and drafty rooms” story is full of more holes than most people’s ducts (Feb. 14). The majority of Spokane homes have conditioned basements where the ducts are located. Sealing ducts in conditioned spaces is like adding insulation to interior walls.

Further, the tests recommended, Infiltrometer and IR camera scan, are telling but should come last to common sense maintenance, which most people neglect. Take a survey: “Who took the lowest bid for new or replacement heat systems?” Now you have identified the source of most residential comfort problems and high energy cost.
