Five left homeless after fire in apartments
Two men, two women and a young boy lost their homes Friday afternoon when fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. in the second story of a house at 2613 W. Gardner Ave. that had been divided into three apartments.
Spokane Fire Department Battalion Chief Ken Kirsch said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread into the attic, but the building could no longer be occupied.
No one was injured.
Kirsch had no estimate of the damage and said the cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday evening.
