Streaking Penguins continue to gain ground
Jarkko Ruutu scored two goals Friday night to lead the surging Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.
Rob Scuderi, Jordan Staal and Sidney Crosby also scored for Pittsburgh, which pulled within five points of the Atlantic Division-leading Devils with a game in hand. The Penguins have won five in a row.
Blue Jackets 3, Sharks 0: At Columbus, Ohio, Gilbert Brule, Fredrik Modin and Sergei Fedorov each had a goal and an assist and Fredrik Norrena stopped 29 shots to give Columbus a victory over San Jose.
The Sharks’ offensive woes continued as they were shut out for the second game in a row, running their scoreless streak to 148 minutes, 30 seconds.
Blues 1, Predators 0: At St. Louis, Bill Guerin scored late in the second period, Manny Legace stopped 19 shots and St. Louis ended a 14-game losing streak against Nashville.
Canucks 2, Blackhawks 1 (SO): At Chicago, Trevor Linden and Brendan Morrison scored in the shootout, and Roberto Luongo made 34 saves to lead Vancouver to its third straight win.

The San Jose Sharks reacquired forward Alex Korolyuk, trading a conditional third-round pick to the New Jersey Devils for a veteran forward with plenty of experience in their system. Korolyuk had 62 goals and 80 assists over parts of six seasons with the Sharks.… Goalie Mikael Tellqvist and center Mike Zigomanis have re-signed with the Phoenix Coyotes. Both agreed to two-year deals, the Coyotes said. Terms weren’t disclosed. … Peter Forsberg will make his debut today with the Nashville Predators on home ice. Traded to Nashville from Philadelphia on Thursday, a chance remained that the star center would join his new team against the Blues. Instead, he’ll make his first appearance with the Predators when they play host to Minnesota.
