Man dead after house fire

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

SHORELINE, Wash. – A man in his 60s was found dead Sunday morning after fire destroyed a house in this city just north of Seattle.

Firefighters were called about 7:30 a.m. to the two-story home near the Jackson Park Golf Course and found some people from inside had escaped by the time they arrived.

They directed firefighters to the upstairs, but rescuers could not immediately get inside that area because the fire was too intense.

The victim was found on the second floor. His identity was not immediately available.

“It was apparently a kerosene heater that either caught fire or set something on fire near to it, and the victim apparently tried to extinguish the fire himself and was overcome,” Melonie Granfors of the Shoreline Fire Department told the Seattle Times.

It wasn’t immediately known how many people lived in the home, but no other injuries were reported.
