Politics distract us from warming truth

Outstanding piece on global warming by Randy Mann in (last) Thursday’s Voices. Thanks for writing it and for the invitation for the “great unwashed” meteorologists among us to have a say.

I’m a retired ophthalmologist, and after 40 years of practice, I’ve had to learn to make “crow” a staple in my diet. So much of what I as taught as a sure thing in the ‘50s has since been shown to be either partly or totally wrong.

Great amounts of new stuff keep popping up, making me wish I was a bit younger than 77 in order to see what’s next to come down the pike. I won’t argue that medicine is an easy science, but you won’t find me saying that there’s anything simple or totally understood by the practitioners of your trade, either.

The third paragraph of your article pretty well mirrors my opinion on the subject of global warming and its numerous, complex aspects. You might agree with me that to the extent that the subject has become politicized, that this is a distraction that interferes with people like you from getting to the truth of this baffling matter.

Yes, undoubtedly us two-leggers have something to do with the phenomenon. Anything we can do to cut down on pollution from power plants and automobiles would be effective. Question is just how much?
