Red Wings win, close in on record
Henrik Zetterberg scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:22 left to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night in Detroit.
Detroit got its 13th consecutive home win, moving within one of the franchise record set in 1964-65.
Zetterberg added an empty-netter and Dominik Hasek made 26 saves.
Pavel Datsyuk gave Detroit a 2-1 lead with a short-handed goal 9:17 into the third period, just 8 seconds after Chris Chelios was called for accidentally high-sticking James Wisniewski. Datsyuk stole the puck from Adrian Aucoin at the Red Wings’ blue line, went in on a breakaway, and beat Khabibulin with a forehand shot.
Sharks 3, Capitals 2 (SO): At Washington, Joe Pavelski and Jonathan Cheechoo scored in the shootout to lift San Jose to a victory over the Capitals.
