Gonzaga clinches conference crown

Gonzaga clinched the West Coast Conference regular-season women’s basketball title for the third straight season with a 71-58 win over visiting San Diego on Thursday.

Heather Bowman and Michelle Elliot each scored 13 points to pace the Bulldogs (20-9, 12-1). Stephanie Hawk posted her 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Simone Santos added 10 points for Gonzaga, which held San Diego to 30 percent shooting from the field.

Amber Sprague had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Toreros (20-7, 9-4).

•Traci Graham and Jessica Preslar each scored 17 to lead Nevada to a 75-63 win over Idaho in Western Athletic Conference action at Reno.

Lindsey Koppen, with 21 points, Katie Madison, 15, and Charolette Otero, 14, led the way for the Vandals (5-20, 2-12).

Dellena Criner added 16 points, including a 10-for-10 effort from the foul line, for the Wolf Pack (14-12, 8-5).

•Andrea Lightfoot scored 29 to lead Idaho State to an 83-80 comeback win over Eastern Washington in Big Sky Conference play at Pocatello, Idaho.

Phynique Allen and Brittney Osborn each scored 18 for the Eagles (8-18, 3-10), who took a 10-point lead into halftime. EWU shot 57 percent from the field in the first half but dropped to 28 percent in the second.

Jeni Boesel scored 19 for the Bengals (12-13, 8-5).

•Cicely Oaks scored 12 and Eleanor Haring added 11 as Oregon (16-11, 8-9) topped Washington State 51-34 in Pac-10 Conference play at Pullman.

Kate Benz became the Cougars’ all-time leading rebounder after pulling down 11, pushing her career total to 882 to move past Cassandra Overby.

Marisa Stotler led Washington State (5-22, 1-16) with eight points.

•Breanne Watson scored 10 of her 13 points after halftime and Washington used a 32-11 run to open the second half to defeat Oregon State 70-59.

Cameo Hicks also added 13 points for the Huskies (17-11, 10-7). Judie Lomax and Casey Nash each scored 13 points to pace the Beavers (8-18, 3-14).
