NBA : Gasol scores 25 as Grizzlies sink Lakers

Pau Gasol had 25 points and 13 rebounds, Mike Miller scored 14 of his 25 in a record-setting third quarter, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Los Angeles Lakers 128-118 Tuesday night in Memphis, Tenn.

Memphis, which had seven players in double figures, built the lead in the third period, outscoring the Lakers 46-22, including 13 unanswered points over a 3-minute span. The 46 points were a Grizzlies franchise record for points in a quarter.

Memphis led by as many as 24 in the fourth as starters Kobe Bryant, who led the Lakers with 25 points, Brian Cook and Smush Parker sat on the Los Angeles bench for the final period.

Cavaliers 108, Kings 98: At Sacramento, Calif., LeBron James scored 34 points in the arena where he made his NBA debut, and Cleveland rallied from a big second-half deficit to beat the Kings for their eighth win in nine games.

James started slowly but scored 24 points in the second half as the Eastern Conference leaders erased a 17-point deficit with a 31-9 run in the third quarter of the opener on their seven-game West Coast road trip.

Spurs 98, Blazers 84: At San Antonio, Tim Duncan led a balanced attack with 16 points, and the Spurs beat Portland.

Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker had 14 points apiece, Brent Barry added 13 and Bruce Bowen scored 12 points – all on 3-pointers – for the Spurs.

Mavericks 108, Jazz 105: At Salt Lake City, Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high 38 points, including two free throws with 10.2 remaining, to help Dallas beat Utah.

Dallas swingman Jerry Stackhouse was kicked out of the game after getting called for his second flagrant foul.

Pistons 98, 76ers 89: At Philadelphia, Tayshaun Prince scored a career-high 33 points and Richard Hamilton had 22 to lead Detroit past the 76ers.

Flip Murray had a career-high 12 assists for the Pistons. Rasheed Wallace did not start the game because of a coach’s decision, played only 29 minutes and scored eight points.

Pacers 91, Hawks 72: At Indianapolis, Al Harrington scored 18 points and sparked a second-half run as Indiana beat Atlanta.

Harrington, who spent two seasons with Atlanta before returning to the Pacers, scored 14 points in the second half after shooting 1 for 8 from the field in the first half.

Nets 101, Raptors 86: At East Rutherford, N.J., Vince Carter scored 32 points and Richard Jefferson added 21 to lead New Jersey to a win over Toronto in a matchup of the top teams in the weak Atlantic Division.

Jason Kidd added 10 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds just hours after filing for divorce from his wife of 10 years, accusing her of “extreme cruelty” throughout their marriage.

Bobcats forwards Gerald Wallace and Melvin Ely will miss Charlotte’s game at Detroit today because of injuries. … Washington center Etan Thomas will return to the lineup for today’s game against Chicago after missing a month with a sprained left ankle. … New Orleans Hornets backup guard Bobby Jackson has five cracked ribs – not one as first thought – stemming from an injury in a November game.
