The big UCLA-USC matchup at the Galen Center gets more interesting with the news that Bruins guard Josh Shipp is out with a hamstring injury. … Oregon is looking strong after defeating then-No. 1 UCLA, and could get even better with Malik Hairston expected back after a heel injury. With Hairston out, senior Aaron Brooks picked up the slack nicely, scoring 56 points against the Southern California schools last week to nab conference player of the week honors. … The conference has five teams in the Top 25 of the coaches poll, the high-water mark for the season. That poll contains WSU and Washington, the first time the schools have been ranked simultaneously. … Oregon State got a lift this week with the announcement former Kansas forward C.J. Giles will transfer in, but Giles can’t play this year and the Beavers appear to be in significant trouble after a 45-point home loss to USC. No. 10 Arizona is on tap tonight.
