Citizens armed to protect more than property
In her response to the Dec. 21 Voice column (Security lies in the heart – and the gun cabinet), Nancy Bell is flawed in her thinking that an armed citizen is armed to protect only his property. Most of the element of society that would take your material things will, if push comes to shove, kill to obtain what you have earned.
This is the same kind of thinking that wants you to sit down and have a meaningful discussion with a radical person that wants to kill you and your children because you don’t believe as he does. A gun, a baseball bat, a frying pan are all better than words for stopping a home invasion. You hear of cases where someone uses a gun because the news feeds on that. But the crimes that did not happen due to the presence of self-protection are uncountable.
Nancy, as much as I want to see your world, we don’t live in it. Please read one month’s Armed Citizen in American Hunter Magazine and see how good people stay alive in bad moments.
