Area roundup : UPS rallies to defeat Whitworth women
Puget Sound’s Morgan Harter scored six points in the final 90 seconds to cap her team’s comeback, and host Whitworth let a double-digit lead slip away in a 73-68 loss in a women’s college basketball game Friday night.
The loss dropped Whitworth out of a first-place tie shared by four other Northwest Conference teams entering Friday.
The Pirates (9-5, 3-2) led 53-41 midway through the second half before the Loggers (11-3, 4-1) began to chisel away. Harter tossed in a 10-foot jumper and added a runner off the glass to give the Loggers a 69-66 edge with 45 seconds remaining. Harter, who finished with nine points, then sealed the victory with a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left.
Susan McDaniel led all scorers with 18 points, and Alida Bower added 14 for the Pirates, who scored one field goal in the game’s final 3 1/2 minutes.
Marissa Cain scored 14 points for UPS.

CCS won despite being outrebounded 49-30 by the Chuckars (5-13, 0-3).

Men’s basketball
Shawn Henderson scored with 35 seconds remaining in overtime as visiting North Idaho slipped past Colorado Northwestern 93-91 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Rangely, Colo.
Henderson finished with 17 points for the Cardinals (10-5, 2-3).
North Idaho’s Brian Morris led all players with 29 points and added eight rebounds. Teammate Zach Parks added 14 points and seven rebounds and Nick Livi chipped in 10 points.
Houston Power led Colorado Northwestern (6-8, 0-5) with 22 points.

One player, Ryan Goodwin, reached double-digits for Treasure Valley. He finished with 10 points.
Hunting
New rules that restrict technological advances in muzzleloader hunting were adopted Thursday by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission. Among the weapon stipulations for special muzzleloader seasons, hunters must:
“Use all-lead bullets at least within 10/1,000 of the bore diameter.
“Have open sights, and use only loose black powder or synthetic black powder.
“Have an exposed, pivoting hammer and an exposed ignition using only flint, musket caps or percussion caps.
