In brief: Toronto uses No. 1 pick in MLS draft on Edu
Maryland All-American Maurice Edu was taken by Toronto with the top pick at Friday’s Major League Soccer draft as the David Beckham signing dominated the conversation in Indianapolis.
Beckham agreed a day earlier to a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Galaxy also picked Oregon State forward Robbie Findley as the 16th overall selection, the third pick in the second round. Fifty-two players were selected in the draft.

Roddick tops Federer
Defending champion Andy Roddick picked up a confidence-boosting 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win today over top-ranked Roger Federer in the final of the invitational Kooyong Classic in Melbourne, Australia. Roddick is 1-12 officially in his career against Federer.
“Kim Clijsters began her retirement year with a victory, beating Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the Sydney (Australia) International final.
“Third-seeded David Ferrer won his third career ATP Tour title, beating top-seeded Spanish compatriot Tommy Robredo today in the Heineken Open at Auckland, New Zealand.

Tulsa hires Graham
Todd Graham was hired as head football coach at Tulsa, just three days after he had signed a contract to remain with Rice through 2012.
Graham leaves Rice after one season and replaces Steve Kragthorpe, who was hired Tuesday to replace Bobby Petrino at Louisville.
“Alabama football coach Nick Saban hired former Miami Dolphins assistant Bo Davis, former Houston Texans offensive line coach Steve Marshall, and former Tampa Bay tight ends and assistant special teams coach Ron Middleton.
