NBA: Iverson, Nuggets topple Rockets in overtime
Allen Iverson banked in a running 3-pointer in overtime and scored 36 points to rally visiting Denver to a 121-113 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night in the Nuggets’ final game without Carmelo Anthony.
Iverson also had 10 assists, finding Steve Blake in the corner for a 3-pointer with 1:36 left in overtime.
Marcus Camby also had a basket in overtime, scored 12 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for the Nuggets, who went 7-8 in the 15 games Anthony was suspended after fighting in a Dec. 16 game against New York.
Bobcats 104, Hawks 85: At Charlotte, N.C., Matt Carroll scored 22 points and Charlotte shot a team-record 65 percent in a victory over Atlanta, the Bobcats’ second win over the Hawks in two nights.
Atlanta couldn’t contain the Bobcats’ shooters. Carroll was 9 of 12, Emeka Okafor scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Adam Morrison, who had struggled with his shot of late, shot 8 of 14 and scored 18.
The Hawks played the second half without forward Josh Smith, who will likely face disciplinary action after he made obscene gestures to fans after his second-quarter ejection.
Clippers 112, Grizzlies 91: At Los Angeles, Elton Brand scored a season-high 34 points, and Sam Cassell added 21 points and a season-high 14 assists to help Los Angeles rout Memphis.
Brand was 13 for 23 from the field for the Clippers, who won the season series 3-0 after losing 11 of the previous 13 meetings.
Cassell played 36 minutes while Shaun Livingston sat out his second straight game because of a sprained right ankle.
Knicks 108, Pacers 106: At Indianapolis, Eddy Curry scored 26 points to help New York hand Indiana its fourth straight loss.
The Pacers had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Danny Granger shot an airball on a 3-pointer from the right wing. If the Pacers had made the shot, it would have been the Knicks’ third consecutive one-point loss.
Stephon Marbury scored 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and David Lee added 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Knicks.
Hornets 113, Lakers 103: At Oklahoma City, David West had 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Rasual Butler outshot Kobe Bryant down the stretch to lead New Orleans over Los Angeles.
Bryant overcame a slow start to finish with 23 points, but it was Butler who came up with the big plays in crunch time.
Butler gave New Orleans a 102-96 lead when he came around a screen and drilled a 3-pointer over Bryant from the top of the key. Bryant answered at the other end, but then got blocked by Butler on a drive to the basket the next time the Lakers had the ball.
Nets 101, Magic 94: At East Rutherford, N.J., Eddie House scored 15 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and New Jersey held Dwight Howard to a season-low one point in a victory over Orlando.
The big key for the Nets was the defensive job they did on Howard, who was averaging a team-high 17.5 points. He was 0 for 6 from the field and was so frustrated on offense by Jason Collins that he picked up three offensive fouls. His previous low was four points against Phoenix on Dec. 11.
Rookie J.J. Redick had a career-high 13 points for the Magic, in only his ninth game.
Wizards 115, Celtics 110 (OT): At Washingon, Antawn Jamison recovered from a hyperextended knee to score five of his 23 points in overtime, and Washington blew a 21-point second-half lead before beating Boston.
The Wizards won their 10th straight home game – setting a Verizon Center record – in agonizing fashion. Not only did they lose a big lead, but Brendan Haywood failed to win an easy jump ball, Caron Butler missed a dunk and Antonio Daniels tossed a wild airball – all in overtime.
Jazz 95, Bulls 85: At Chicago, Mehmet Okur scored 21 points and Carlos Boozer added 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead Utah to a victory over Chicago.
Okur, who averaged 29 points the previous three games, was 7 of 18 from the field.
Boozer delivered his 31st double-double, after scoring 23 and matching a season-high with 19 rebounds in a 102-94 win Friday at Toronto.
Cavaliers 106, Warriors 104 (OT): At Oakland, Calif., LeBron James scored 32 points and Larry Hughes had 15 as Cleveland put an impressive finish on its seven-game road trip, rallying from a big halftime deficit for an overtime victory over Golden State.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 14 points and 11 boards for the Cavs.
