Man found dead at vacant home

The Spokesman-Review

One 18-year-old man was found dead and another unconscious Monday morning at a north Spokane home that was being remodeled.

The man found dead was identified as Adam J. Giudice, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dave Reagan. The unconscious man, also 18, was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition Monday night.

The two apparently entered the vacant home on North Center Road sometime late Sunday or early Monday and may have been overcome by carbon monoxide fumes, Reagan said. Fire Department officials measured extremely high levels of the gas inside. Detectives and personnel at the medical examiner’s office think the home’s furnace may have been faulty, Reagan said. The victim was lying near a furnace vent. The other man was nearby.

Investigators say it appears the pair got into the home through a sliding glass door. A property owner found them while checking on the remodeling project.

“The home at 4415 N. Center Road was formerly a group home,” Reagan said. “Deputies believe the surviving man was a former tenant in the home.”

Bloomsday seeks race entertainers

Performers of every ilk who want to showcase their skills on Bloomsday can apply now for a spot beside the race course.

Organizers say bands, singers and dancers stationed to entertain participants in the 71/2-mile foot race have been a popular addition to the event.

Applications for performers are available online at www.bloomsdayrun.org or at the Bloomsday office, 1610 W. Riverside.

Following the race, runners will log on and vote for the best performers. The top three will receive $500, $300 and $200.

Last year’s winners were country-pop soloist Breanna Lynn Abell, country band Dusty Klink and classic rock group PF Flyer.

Runners also can sign up for the 31st annual Lilac Bloomsday Run on the Web. Online registration this year started earlier than previously, according to the site.

Those who register for Bloomsday through Feb. 18 will be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the St. Patrick’s Day Dash in Seattle.
