County library hours extended

Thanks to a successful levy lid election last fall, the Spokane County Library District will be adding 61 more hours to nine of its 10 branches. The new expanded hours will begin March 1.

“More hours is at the top of the list when we ask patrons what we could be doing better,” said Beth Gillespie, communication specialist for SCLD. “Our student population also asked that we be open on Sundays.”

Additional hours mean that all 10 branches will now open at the same time. Prior to the levy lid passage, patrons complained about the different start times at various branches. Consistent open hours will make library visits easier to plan.

Because the Deer Park branch is heavily used, it was awarded the biggest increase –16 additional hours. Regional manager, Linda Dunham, said, “When I spoke at the Deer Park Chamber meeting and told them if the levy lid passed, their branch would get more hours, they applauded.” The chamber holds their meetings in the Deer Park library.

Here are some of the new Spokane County library hours:

Argonne: Total increase 12 hr/wk; Monday 10 am – 8 pm (+1 hr); Tuesday 10 am – 8 pm (+1 hr) Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm (+2 hr); Thursday 10 am – 6 pm (same); Friday 10 am – 6 pm (+8 hr); Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (same).

Deer Park: Total increase 16 hr/wk; Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm (+4 hr); Monday 10 am – 8 pm (+1 hr); Tuesday 10 am – 8 pm (+1 hr); Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm (+2 hr); Thursday 10 am – 6 pm (same); Friday 10 am – 6 pm (+8 hr); Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (same).

North Spokane: Total increase 3 hr/wk; Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm (same); Monday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Tuesday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Wednesday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Thursday 10 am – 9 pm (+3 hr); Friday 10 am – 6 pm (same); Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (same).

Otis Orchards: Total increase 0 hr/wk; Tuesday 10 am – 8 pm (same); Wednesday 10 am – 8 pm (same); Thursday 10 am – 6 pm (same); Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (same).

Spokane Valley: Total increase 3 hr/wk; Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm (same); Monday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Tuesday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Wednesday 10 am – 9 pm (same); Thursday 10 am – 9 pm (+3 hr); Friday 10 am – 6 pm (same); Saturday 10 am – 6 pm (same).
