The final regular-season games this week for 5A Inland Empire League teams could essentially be a preview of the Region I tournament that begins Feb. 2.

Post Falls (15-3 overall, 8-2 league) and Lake City (16-2, 8-2) are tied in league. Post Falls visits top-seeded and regional host Coeur d’Alene (16-2, 10-0) Thursday and the Trojans turn around and play host to the Timberwolves on Friday. Both games tip off at 6 p.m.

Post Falls and LC will face each other in a regional opener.

Post Falls’ final league games could prove whether it is a contender or a pretender.

Boys basketball

There are four games that could go far in separating the IEL teams this weekend.

Thursday, Post Falls (8-7, 3-4) visits Coeur d’Alene (10-4, 5-1).

Friday, league-leading Moscow (12-2, 6-0), the state’s second-ranked 4A team, visits CdA while Lake City (10-4, 4-2) goes to Post Falls.

Then on Saturday, LC travels to Moscow.

Wrestling

The fifth annual George Wild Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Kellogg High’s Andrews Gymnasium.

The 12-team tourney features dual matches Friday. Winners and losers will be seeded into championship and consolation brackets Saturday.
