Disrupting funerals, HB 1168

Expands the definition of disorderly conduct by prohibiting anyone from disrupting a funerals or memorial services. Disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. The House passed the bill Monday by a vote of 89 to 5. It was passed Friday by the Senate with only one “no” vote, from Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle.

Expanding high-school completion programs, HB 1051

Would mandate that community and technical colleges offer courses needed for students under age 21 to earn a high school diploma. Schools would be reimbursed by the state basic education account. The House passed the bill by a vote of 73 to 21 Monday; it is under consideration in the Senate.

Requires the Department of Social and Health Services to offer Medicare Part D prescription drug co-payment coverage to about 100,000 Washington residents who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, starting July 1. The House passed the bill Monday by a vote of 92 to 0. It is under consideration in the Senate.
