LC’s Kennedy commits to OSU

Brittany Kennedy has become the third player from Lewis and Clark’s two-time state basketball champions and fourth in the two years to commit to a Division I women’s program.

Kennedy made her oral decision to play for Oregon State University.

“I fell in love with Coach (LaVonda) Wagner and her staff, the players and OSU academically,” said Kennedy of her only college visit.

The Beavers were a young team last year with only two seniors and five freshmen on a team that went 9-19.

Washington State, Washington and Gonzaga, she said, had also shown interest.

She said OSU is looking to play her at a shooting guard initially, but that she will eventually move to the point.

She also said that both her school coach, Jim Redmon, and Spokane Stars club coach Ron Adams are expecting more offensive output next year.

But, “at the same time Jim knows I like getting the whole team involved,” Kennedy said.

Savage catches honor again

For the second time this season, Spokane Shock receiver Antwone Savage earned the arenafootball2 league’s Offensive Player of the Week award for his record-setting performance last Saturday against the Central Valley Coyotes.

In the game, which gave the Shock a 1 1/2-game lead over the Coyotes for first place in the Western Division, Savage propelled the Shock to a franchise-record 76 points with eight touchdown receptions, breaking the record Raul Vijil set two weeks ago when he caught six TD passes.

Despite being sidelined two weeks ago in the Shock’s victory over Boise, Savage leads the Shock in all receiving categories and the league in scoring with 35 TDs (210 points) in 12 games.

The Shock have a bye this week and return to action July 14 when they host the Tri-Cities Fever at the Arena in their final regular-season home game of the year.

The Fever are tied with Central Valley for second place in the division standings.
