Bayview News: Captain’s Wheel hosts 2-wheeled events
Vehicles of the two-wheeled variety have taken over Bayview recently.
First, an invasion of Vespas and the like hit Farragut State Park in June with a weekend campout and rally.
Called the Two Percent Scooters, these afficionados of ‘50s-style motor scooters gathered from all over the Pacific Northwest.
The Captain’s Wheel in Bayview hosted a barbecue, which was rudely interrupted by a wandering thunderstorm with huge lightning and thunder, followed by torrential rain. It chased the group back to their campground, where a damp night followed.
Later in June, a Harley-Davidson poker run ended at the Captain’s Wheel with an estimated 60 participants lasting the course.
An outdoor concert was provided by The Tiger Mike Show, with veteran singer and bass player James Adams. Well-known Coeur d’Alene attorney Mike McFarland also is the CEO of the Captain’s Wheel and an excellent singer to boot.
The musicians featured some oldies music from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Tiger Mike can be found on most weekends playing at Susie’s in Hayden.
Bayview Daze
For folks who haven’t had enough of traditional Fourth of July festivities, Bayview Daze starts Friday, with the street parade at 11 a.m., and a boat parade at 9 p.m. on Saturday followed by fireworks at 10.
Streets will be blocked off for the parade at 10:30 a.m. Parking will be at a premium, and you may have to walk several blocks unless you arrive early.
Yours truly will be the parade master of ceremonies. Stop by and say hi.
The street fair will be featured Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when vendors will offer arts, crafts and unusual products, such as the Athol entry that features appropriate – or, as some would say, inappropriate – sayings relating to the town of the same name.
Entertainment will crank up at the Captain’s Wheel for afternoon enjoyment. Starting at 4 p.m. outside on Saturday only will be Southern Comfort, followed by the No Jugs Band inside from 8 p.m. until midnight both Friday and Saturday. JD’s, located behind the street fair, will feature an old-fashioned outdoor barbecue with mouth-watering rib-eye steaks cooked the way you like them Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Bayview Chamber of Commerce raffle drawing will be at noon after the parade in front of the Mercantile. Proceeds will be split, with $1,000 going for the fireworks display and the other half going to the winner.
Tickets are $20 each with only 100 being issued. This is a donation, which, we understand, is tax-deductible.
Big Taste Grill at Silverwood
Silverwood Theme Park was heard from last week as it featured a 65-foot-long grill on a semitruck trailer. Hundreds of bratwurst were grilled.
The Big Taste Grill, as it is called, has appeared at the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, Kentucky Derby and many other events and is capable of cooking 750 brats at a time with the help of 12 grill masters.
Entertainment was provided by Sammy Eubanks and Jason Meadows, winner of the Nashville Star competition.
Fireworks were featured at the park on the Fourth of July.
