In brief: Alarm sounds at old Rathdrum city jail
A new $2,000 portable alarm at 5:40 p.m. June 29 sent Rathdrum city police to the vacant old city jail, now a historical site. Two boys, ages 11 and 12, apparently tripped the alarm. They’d scaled 6-foot-tall cyclone fence, said Rathdrum Police Chief Kevin Fuhr.
The boys were released to their parents; the department is recommending they be charged for unlawfully entering the 100-year-old site, which is scheduled to become a future museum.
Fuhr said he believes one of the boys had entered the building on a previous occasion and wanted to show it to his friend.
“Curiosity got the better of them. They wanted to go inside and look around,” he said.
The city and the Westwood Historical Society own the building and will give tours when requested.
Post Falls
Teacher, officer honored by state
A Post Falls teacher and an administrator were honored recently by state organizations for their outstanding work.
It was all business.
The Idaho Business Education Association honored Angela Blair, a business teacher at Post Falls High School, as 2007 Emerging Professional Business Teacher of the Year.
School district chief financial officer Sid Armstrong was named Business Official of the Year by the Idaho Association of School Business Officials.
A graduate of the University of Idaho, Blair began teaching in Post Falls High School’s business and marketing program in 2005.
Her award is given to a teacher who has taught for five or fewer years and is a member of the National Business Education Association.
Armstrong, the district’s financial officer for 15 years, is a former president of the state association that honored him.
New deli coming to Post Falls

Senior Center to honor volunteer
The Post Falls Senior Center will host a buffet luncheon and open house to recognize the soon-to-retire Nome Polites.
She first volunteered her time, overseeing the home meal delivery service. The center hired her years ago to handle all the paperwork that needs to be filed to ensure funding by various agencies.
Tickets are $3 for senior citizens and $7 for the general public. Reserve your seat by calling Marie Fish, center director, at 773-9582.
