Several Bible school sessions set to begin

The vacation Bible school season is hitting a high note as several Valley churches prepare to offer sessions to children. Each VBS usually includes a mix of crafts, Bible stories, games and other activities.

“Christ Lutheran Church will offer its VBS session for children entering grades K-6, July 23-27. Classes will meet daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 13009 E. Broadway. The theme is “Listen Up!” and the session will be led by instructors from Lutherhaven Ministries.

The cost is $10 per child with a maximum of $20 per family, which includes lunches, supplies and a T-shirt. Advance registration is required. Call the church office at 928-7733 for more information or to register.

“Spokane Valley Baptist Church will host its VBS July 16-20. The theme is “The Jesus Expedition.” Classes for children ages 3 to 11 will meet from 9 to 11:15 a.m. each day.

“Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host two, three-day VBS sessions for children in grades K-5. The sessions are scheduled for July 17 through 19 and Aug. 21 through 23 at the church, 115 N. Raymond Road. The theme of the sessions is “Great Bible Reef.” The hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The cost is $20 for one session or $35 for both sessions.

“Zion Lutheran Church has set its “Dive into the Great Bible Reef” VBS session for Monday through Friday this week. The session is open to ages 4 through the sixth grade. Classes will meet each day from 9 to 11:45 a.m. The band Gathering will perform and there will be music and puppetry in addition to the traditional activities.

T-shirts will be available for $15. As part of the event, the church will host a family carnival at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave. Call the church at 926-5407 for more information.

Play days

Opportunity Presbyterian Church is hosting play days in the park at Terrace View Park every Wednesday beginning this week. Children up to fifth-graders are invited from 10 a.m. to noon. Each weekly session, held through the end of August, will include games, crafts, stories and snacks.

It’s barbecue time

The annual barbecue potluck at Opportunity Christian Church is set for Sunday after the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a side dish to share and something to grill for themselves. All are welcome. The church is at 708 N. Pines Road.

Worship change

Spokane Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway Ave., will change its worship schedule for July and August. There will be one worship service at 10 a.m. each Sunday with an evening service at 6 p.m. Sunday School classes will resume in the fall.
