Shadle’s Lynn chooses PSU

Danielle Lynn, who will be a junior at Shadle Park, has made an oral commitment to Portland State University.

Portland State plays in the NCAA Division I Pacific Coast Softball Conference where in 2006 it was conference champion and a regional tournament qualifier.

Her father, George, who also is her coach at Shadle, said Vikings coach Amy Hayes first watched Lynn play in eighth grade.

“We just felt comfortable with that coaching staff,” he said. “A big option was staying on the West Coast.”

Danielle is a two-year starting second baseman for the state champion Highlanders. She was fifth last spring in the Greater Spokane League with a .550 batting average, led the league in runs batted in with 48, finished third in runs scored with 35 and hit seven doubles and six home runs. She also plays outfield.

She said the coaching style at PSU is similar to her dad’s.

“I love the environment of the big city,” she said of her decision to attend PSU. “I’ve always wanted to go there.”
