Butorac to play in France

Paul Butorac, who set the Eastern Washington record for career blocked shots, will continue his basketball career in Baoulogne, France.

“I’m excited,” the 6-foot-10 forward from Medical Lake said. “I’m ready for a change of scenery and I get to keep playing ball, that’s what I love.”

Butorac averaged 14.4 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds last season. He had a school- record 51 blocked shots as a junior and 99 for his career.

Injured fan returns home

Paul Robinson headed home Monday, about a week after suffering a broken neck at Yankee Stadium when another fan fell on him.

“Obviously this wasn’t the way we were planning to leave New York when we arrived 10 days ago,” said Robinson, standing during a news conference outside Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. “Even though we had an awful eighth inning … I feel fortunate to be leaving New York on my feet and I am determined to recover fully.”

Robinson, 53, of Kirkland, Wash., was in the steep upper deck of the stadium with his wife and son on July 8 when an unidentified man above him fell down several rows of seats. The man landed on Robinson and broke his vertebra.

Sharing thoughts from British Open

Our adopted British Open golfer, Australian pro Ewan Porter, is playing in the British Open starting Thursday.

Porter has agreed to share his experience with SportsLink readers.

“I must say that I had butterflies when we were driving along the 18th fairway towards the Royal and Ancient clubhouse, thinking to myself that this is where our game began hundreds of years ago,” Porter writes.

His latest dispatch includes a note about his mother getting hit by a golf ball and his practice on the famous Road Hole (17th).
